Abstract

This review focuses on finding out the connections between RNA editing and the development of behavioral and neural complexities in coleoids with an evolutionary context. RNA editing is known to play a key role in the evolution of complex neural behavior in coleoids. With the loss of external shell during evolution, the environmental pressures on the coleoids increased and that led to the development of cognition and behavioral advancements. The A-to-I RNA editing has many therapeutic potentials, it can change the transcript of dysfunctional genes and can lead to the formation of functional protein. But RNA editing can be disadvantageous also because it can lead to the overload of proteins in a cell which can cause neuro-degradation and aging in coleoids. Also, it slows down the genome-level evolution in coleoids.
